Being told your pregnancy is “high-risk” can be frightening. Usually it simply means you and your baby need a little more attention: more frequent check-ups, a few extra tests and a clear plan. At Venus Women’s Wellness Clinic in Wakad, Dr. Madhavi Tayade gives you that closer care and explains each step calmly.

When a pregnancy needs extra care

A pregnancy may need closer monitoring for many reasons. Common ones are gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, anaemia, twins, a previous caesarean section, earlier miscarriages or preterm births, a low-lying placenta, or pregnancy at a younger or older age. Some concerns are known from the start; others appear only during pregnancy.

How we care for you

Your modern care follows standard obstetric practice. Expect more frequent visits, regular blood pressure and sugar checks, extra scans to follow your baby’s growth, and medicines when needed. Dr. Madhavi Tayade has worked in hospitals across Pune and managed more than 500 normal deliveries, and she knows when a situation calls for a specialist or hospital-level care. When it does, she coordinates with specialists and with a partner hospital, so your care stays joined up.

Ayurvedic support is used carefully and kept simple. In a high-risk pregnancy, that mostly means dietary care that may help with sugar and blood pressure, stress-reducing yoga and breathing adjusted to your condition, and guided meditation or Garbhasanskar for emotional support. Any Ayurvedic preparation is used only if it is safe in pregnancy and only under medical supervision. Your prescribed medicines are never replaced.

Warning signs to know

Learn these signs and act on them quickly: vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, a severe headache, blurred vision, swelling of the face or hands, fits, severe abdominal pain, high fever, or your baby moving less than usual. If any of these happen, go to the nearest hospital or call 108, and then let us know.

Planning the birth

As your due date approaches, we discuss the safest way and time to deliver. Births are planned with a partner hospital, and we go through the details at consultation. With the right care, many women with high-risk pregnancies go on to have healthy deliveries.

Questions women ask

What makes a pregnancy high-risk?

A pregnancy may be called high-risk if there is gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, anaemia, twins, a previous caesarean or miscarriage, a low-lying placenta, or if the mother is younger than 18 or older than 35. It means you need closer care, not that something will go wrong.

Can I still have a normal delivery?

Many women with a high-risk pregnancy do have a normal delivery. It depends on your condition and how the pregnancy progresses. Dr. Madhavi Tayade will discuss the safest option for you and your baby as you get closer to your due date.

How is gestational diabetes managed?

Most women manage it with a diet plan, activity and regular sugar checks. Some need medicines or insulin. Good control helps protect both mother and baby.

Is Ayurvedic treatment safe in a high-risk pregnancy?

Only specific, pregnancy-safe measures are used, and always under medical supervision. In a high-risk pregnancy, Ayurvedic support is mostly diet, gentle yoga and stress management. Your prescribed medicines must not be stopped.

What should I do in an emergency?

If you have bleeding, severe headache, blurred vision, fits, severe abdominal pain, leaking fluid or reduced baby movements, go to the nearest hospital or call 108 straight away. Then inform us.
