  • Rubella and other vaccinations advice where needed

Ayurveda

  • Beej Sanskar: preparing the 'seed' of both partners for conception

  • Preconception nutrition and daily routine (dinacharya)
  • Yoga, breathing and meditation for physical and mental readiness

A healthy pregnancy begins well before the pregnancy test. The months before conception are a good time to check your health, sort out anything that needs attention and prepare your body and mind. At Venus Women’s Wellness Clinic in Wakad, we help couples do this through modern preconception care and the Ayurvedic practice of Beej Sanskar.

Why prepare before pregnancy

Much of what affects a pregnancy can be checked and improved beforehand: anaemia, thyroid levels, blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, vitamin levels and immunity to infections like rubella. Starting folic acid before conception helps reduce the risk of certain birth defects. A review of your current medicines makes sure they are safe for pregnancy. And time spent resting, eating well and easing stress means you start pregnancy feeling stronger.

What Beej Sanskar means

In Ayurveda, “beej” means seed. Beej Sanskar is a traditional way of preparing the egg and sperm, and the couple as a whole, for conception. It looks at diet, digestion, daily routine, sleep, emotional wellbeing and, where suitable, cleansing therapies from Panchakarma, so that both partners come to conception in good physical and mental health. It is supportive care that sits alongside modern checks and never replaces them.

How we bring the two together

The first step is preconception counselling for the couple. Dr. Madhavi Tayade reviews your health history, orders the right tests and starts supplements. If you have a condition such as thyroid disease, PCOD or diabetes, she makes sure it is well managed before you try.

Next, Nadi Parikshan helps her understand each partner’s constitution, and she draws up a Beej Sanskar plan: preconception nutrition, a daily routine, yoga and breathing practices, and Panchakarma-based cleansing where suitable. It is all done under medical supervision and planned to fit around work and family life.

When to come

Ideally, come three to six months before you plan to start trying. A visit is especially useful if you have had a previous miscarriage or a complicated pregnancy, have irregular periods or a long-term health condition, or if either partner is over 35. If you are already trying, it can still help.

Questions women ask

What is Beej Sanskar?

Beej Sanskar is an Ayurvedic approach to preparing both partners before conception. 'Beej' means seed, and the idea is to support the health of the egg and sperm through diet, routine, cleansing therapies, yoga and a calm mind. It is supportive care used alongside modern preconception checks.

How early should we start preconception care?

Ideally three to six months before you start trying. This gives time for tests, for supplements like folic acid to build up, and for diet and lifestyle changes to take effect.

Does my husband need to be involved?

Yes. Beej Sanskar is for both partners, since the health of the sperm matters as much as the health of the egg. His diet, habits, stress and any medical conditions are part of the plan.

I take thyroid medicine. Is that a problem?

Many women on thyroid medicine have healthy pregnancies. It is important that your levels are well controlled before conception, so Dr. Madhavi Tayade will check and adjust your treatment if needed. Please do not stop any medicine on your own.
